Good for you. That takes courage. You know the old saying?

"power corrupts...absolute power corrupts absolutely"

There you have the problem in a nutshell. Too much power and too much money can do strange things to people. They always want more, and they have to find newer and more extreme ways of enjoying themselves. This has happened in many great empires and power structures in the past, not just in the USA, and the rot works its way down from the top. If you have deeply corrupted leaders and commanders at the top, you soon have a corrupted system...right down to a lot of the little guys at the bottom...like the soldiers who tortured and sexually abused prisoners and murdered prisoners. What we hear about in the media is just the tip of the iceberg.

If we heard about all of it, the government would fall. There'd be a revolution.
