And would work just about as well. Have you compared numbers of auto deaths to numbers of gun deaths recently? Even in the "gun-crazy" US?

Yes, a lot more people concede that cars are necessary than that guns are necessary. But are cars capable of 120+ miles per hour necessary in a country where the max speed limit is about 75? And does anybody agitate seriously for horsepower limits or speed governors?
