Personally speaking I think American slang can be quite perplexing. Most of the time, I find myself thinking 'what does he mean?' - more than anything else. I'm usually quite glad of the bits I understand, rather than irritated.

Given up totally on American talk shows ( the titles take a bit of working out!), and even the newscasters can be rather 'quick' for an outsider of a certain age.
