In WordArt, you can do that. You don't need to use the fancy custom designed WordArt with the fancy fonts. In Word 2000, you go to
Insert on the menu:

Insert > Picture > WordArt.

Then choose one of the WordArt options - with a fairly plain font if you don't want the fancy/special fonts. (You can change the font to the one you want in the drop down menu - see below.) Click OK.

Then click on the WordArt object to bring up the WordArt menu which has a little icon with "abc" in a wave shape and the label that pops up if you wave your cursor over it is "WordArt Shape". A drop down box appears with wave shapes etc and you choose the shape you want and then you can also "grab" the "handles" around the WordArt and change the shape e.g more bend, higher at the edges, and lower in the middle, etc.

If you want to change the font, click on Edit Text in the WordArt menu and then there is a font choice box in that window.

Is this what you wanted?
