Getting birth dates right and musicians of that era don't go together, there is some doubt expressed about Louis Armstrong too.
Mind you, there was a lot of it about in the early part of the last century, my old man lied about his age to get into the army (fortunately, just as WW1 was ending). That one year added to his age haunted him for the rest of his life.
