Thread Name: Lyr Req: Joy across the Land (Limeliters)
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lyrics-Joy Across the Land
I got called away before i could add any information about the song. As Bud pointed out the chorus is a pretty direct lifting of the Gibson-Camp "You Can Tell the World" changing some words. Since Gibson-Camp traded on an old spiritual, I guess that's fair. There are at least two Limeliters recording of the song. The lyrics I transcribed are from a 1976 concert in Seattle. that recording is found on the CD "Glenn Yarbrough & the Limeliters, Joy Across The Land" released in 1993 (GNP/Crescendo GNPD 2219). The song is also on a LP called "Glnn Yarbrough & The Limeliters, Reunion" (1974 Stax Records STS-5513). The LP version is from a 1973 concert in Chicago. The CD actually contains 12 tracks from the Chicago concert including a couple that are on the LP. Both "Joy Across The Land" and "Acres of Limeliters" are on the Chicago LP and the CD but the CD tracks are from the Seattle concert. That's probably more than any one really needed to know.
