The US might be invaded by deluded Canadians, or Canada might be invaded by disillusioned Americans. It really is a situation waiting to happen.

They let me into Canada and back into the US with my driver's licence.

I've also wondered what would happen if, when the rules changed, I didn't feel like shelling out the bucks for a passport. (Isn't this discrimination against the poor?) Would they call the State Department? Would they put me in jail? Would I have to sit outside the Duty Free shop with a little tin can and a 'Homeless Exile' sign? When I got pneumonia from doing this (and not having the forethought to pack enough socks and underwear), would I get decent (Canadian National) medical care? Will they feed me and house me and give me a stipend, or will I have to call CNN?

Or would I be deported back to Afghanistan?

It's all kind of funny. The US government doesn't seem to want us to travel, but then, they don't seem to want us to come home again. I'm so hurt...
