Thread Name: Trio of micro-songs by CapriUni
Subject: Trio of micro-songs by CapriUni
Here are three "micro-songs" that I wrote ages and semi-ages ago, that I only just realized this morning formed a complete triad, of Sun, Moon, and Earth, and they've been knocking around in the shoebox of my brain for a while, now. I only just recreated them, and figured out their proper dots this afternoon.

I knew the first two were a pair, because I composed them as such (on a clunky little music notation tutoring program for the Windows 3.1 operating system). They were both inspired by the book O Mother Sun! Rediscovering the Cosmic Feminie by Patricia Monaghan, about how, in Bronze Age Europe and Asia, the solar deity was a goddess (associated with spinning and weaving--the rays of the sun's light being her yarn, and the Earth being her spindle.), and the lunar diety was a god.

Mother Sun (written, I figure, around 1998, or '99)

Mother Sun, spin, once more, your golden light!
Weave, anew, this world so bright!
Fill our hearts with sweet delight
Through this day, and all the night!

Ancient Father (written at the same time as Mother Sun)

Ancient Father, Moon so bright,
Sailing through the sacred night,
Guide our oceans' currents deep.
Lead our dreams,
And watch our sleep.

I originally tried to write this third one as part of a three-part polyphonic chant; this first part was about the roots of the soul, the second part was meant to be about the body of the soul (linking it to the waters on the Earth's surface), and the third part was meant to about the wings of the sould (linking it to the stars). But no matter how I tried, I could not get the latter two parts to work at all. It wasn't until I woke up this morning with this going through my head, that I realized it really belonged with the two older songs, above.

The lyrics were inspired by watching multiple nature and science shows about how much life on Earth is sustained by the molten rock in the planet's center. instead of the sun (did you know that there's as much microscopic life, pound for pound a mile or more beneath the Earth's surface as there is all life on the surface itself? That just blows my mind.)

Earthlight (written after 2001, at least, but I can't be sure exactly when)

Down, down, deep down,
The heart of the Earth is glowing.
Down, down deep down,
The heart of the Earth is light.

Down down, deep down,
The roots of my soul,
They grow deep down
Into the heart of Her Light.
