My son Brendan will turn 6 on the 13th of this month. He's dealing with autism - and I can assure there are a wide variety of symptoms. He does like a lot of physical contact – and he seeks it out. But that's not considered typical. Mostly he's non-verbal. Doesn't speak a word. And that slows down his educational process a lot as you can imagine. Yet before he went silent he had a vocabulary of close to 20 words – though some of them weren't perfect.

It's growing problem that mostly affects boys. The numbers I heard were that around one out of 177 kids born currently will be somewhere on the autism spectrum. And some people need to figure it out. Daycare centers for one.

The other day I was picking Brendan up from his first day at the new daycare center. They had him for about two and a half hours after he gets out of school. The lady at the daycare met me with our check for the week in her hand. She gave it back to me and said that they weren't going to be able to "handle" him because he would get up and run out of the room. For freakin sake – he's five years old and it's his first day in a new school AND a new daycare. He's testing his boundaries!! It was all I could do not to rip her a new one.

Oh well – rant over.
