Thread Name: Anti Slavery Songs
Subject: RE: Anti Slavery Songs
Greetings:

Does this qualify as pro-slavery?

We are a band of brothers, and native to the soil,
Fighting for the property we gained by honest toil,
And when our rights were threatened, the cry rose near and far,
"Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star!"

--- From The Bonnie Blue Flag by Harry McCarthy

...the property we gained by honest toil...

Give me a break!

Note to Kitty: I recently sent a promotional copy of my new CD I've Been Up On the Mountain to George so he could share it with the Herga Folk Club. It may have already arrived. Track number 10 is an anti-slavery song I call Run, Children, Run. I created it by weaving together passages of text and music from several traditional sources. Anne price accompanies me singing the refrains, and Jody Koldzey adds her voice on the coda. Take a listen and then tell me what you think, good, bad, or indifferent.

Thanks.
