"Escaping the Delta" by Elijah Wald, wherein he illustrates the versatility of black blues musicians in the pre-war blues era, explodes the Robert Johnson myth crap, and celebrates the blues women of that time. It's pretty dry reading. I believe I like Deep Blues by Robert Palmer and the Lomax book, "Land Where Blues Began" better.
