Riffing off from that--and speaking personally, sometimes I do get possessed; if it happens, it is usually while playing with other good musicians; often not. Paying your dues consists in large part of encouraging other musicians-- laying down a good strong steady bass rhythm with the proper chords, so the melody instruments can play.
