I had a nurse assistant who came in with a series of questions. Over my bed was a huge sign that said TOTAL VOICE REST. At first I answered the yes and no questions, but they became more complex, so I handed her a note saying I was unable to speak. She apologized and started writing her questions! At first I was amused, but then it got silly and I had to tell her I wasn't deaf.
