Thread Name: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special'
Subject: RE: Duncan McFarlane Band 'special'
This band are brilliant. Duncan sings and plays like a man inspired. He has a touch of Groucho Marx and he conducts the others with his eyes. Melody, harmony and excitment are provided by Geoff, on guitar, Anne on fiddle and Steve on melodeon. Nick on Drums, Tony on bass put that extra something that makes Folk Rock a major contributor to the strange collection that is English folk music.

The band put fire and passion into everything they do and fine, powerful melody is one feature that makes them exceptional. Although they use amps and such like, nothing gets between them and the audience and that is why they remain so close to the living tradition of musicians and audience being part fo the same experience.

Best night of Folk Rock I have been to ever. Probably the best night of live music.Saw the Boat Band recently and an accoustic night of a fiddle, a melodeon and a guitar hit me in the same way! What the DMcFB and the BB have in common is a depth of experience of traditional music and quality of group playing that, in each band, generates beautiful and genuinely exciting music.

Misic never gets better than in small rooms at the back of pubs and that is why folk clubs contribute so much to the musical life of this country.

Ok I will stop now. If you get the chance, go and see them. They, and not the BBC Awards, represent the best in live music.
