We had a burglary here almost two years ago. Three guys kicked in the door, hauled out computers, tvs, games, peripherals. They were never caught. I worried that they might come back later, after I'd had time to replace things. I now have two dogs who live in the back yard and sleep in the garage with its side door open. If I feel alarmed I can unlock the ornamental wrought iron and let them into the house through my bedroom window if I can't get to the living room sliding glass door (that also has ornamental iron). If someone is breaking in, two noisy dogs (pit bull and catahoula, and I think the catahoula is the one a burglar should worry about) will help.

It took probably 18 months to financially recover from the burglary, because I upgraded security windows and doors.

Odd that your burglar asked for cash after your spouse had been to the ATM. Do you think he followed him home, and made himself a note to come by later in the night?
