I just went into my highschool sons who said that the old controllers work as long as the game does not require a joy stick. The new controllers have added features, but they are not needed for all games. Most new games will need the dual analog feature.
The playstaion 1 memory cards will continue to work with playstaion one games when played on PS2. PS2 games will need PS2 memory cards.
