Have some of you forgotten who the Prime Minister was when we went into Afghanistan? Hint: it wasn't Harper. And there was widespread support for the action at the time, even if some "leaders without constituencies" didn't like it. And, I don't think it had anything to do cosying up to the Americans; if that were the case, we would have joined them in Iraq, which we took a lot of flak for not doing.
Chretien, sensibly, did not buy into the Iraq story. Should we have stayed out of Afghanistan and let the Taliban remain in power and continue to provide support for Osama et al? Or should we have just watched from the sidelines, as if none of it concerned us? Those are not just rhetorical questions; I'm curious as to what some of you who see this as such a black-and-white issue think.
