Another odd thing was the upright bass the KT bass player was using. I hadn't seen it before. It was a full 3/4 bass in length and upper bout - but the lower bout was trimmed very neatly to about 1/3 its size. So the body was short. It had a good pick-up and great sound (sounded full sized). He told me he could travel more easily with it, check it below on the aircraft, not have to buy the bass a seat.
I've seen a lot the travelling players use the electric upright - folding, bodyless instruments - which sound OK, play like a real one but just don;t have all the beauty of the real thing -so this was a bgreat compromise.
