Thread Name: Folklore: Who's this 'Shine' guy?
Subject: RE: Folklore: Who's this 'Shine' guy?
Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli recorded a song called Shine with the Quintet of the Hot Club of Paris and an African American singer back in 1936.
Just because my teeth are pearly,
Just because my hair is curly,
Just because I always wear a smile,
Like to dress up in the latest style,
'Cause I'm glad I'm livin',
Take my troubles all with a smile,
Because my color's shady, baby,
That's why they call me Shine.
I think it's from the days of the shoeshine boys
when men would say "Boy, shine!"
Just one man's opinion of course.
