I also remember being perplexed by a request to sing the song about the girl who was killed in a pub. We didn't sing any songs remotely like that. Eventually the requester said "you know, I shot my own true love in the room of the Swan".   Molly Bawn/Polly Vaughan ...I could never think of the song the same way after that.
