BWL--I agree with your sentiment about the land on which you live. Mine hasn't been hit by hurricanes in the last few years like yours has, so it has been a little less work, though with a drought over the last two years I have had to work to it moist enough for the pooches out back and to keep my xeriscape from blowing away.

I love the adjacent prairie and woods and creek at the bottom of the back yard--we actually saw a kingfisher hanging on a wire over the creek this week! With the birds and critters that choose to live here or pass through, we find ourselves rich with the experiences of seeing them on occasion.
