I have photos..(slides) of people in Yellowstone Park getting OUT of their vehicles to get better snapshots of the CUTE momma bear with the two cubs!....yes, they were tossing them treats, also! (We were taking the pics from a specially built platform on top of our govt. station wagon, about 50 yards away. These people had passed several signs saying "DO NOT FEED THE BEARS...STAY IN YOUR CAR WHEN BEARS ARE AROUND". (No, I don't have pics of bears getting mad when the snacks ran out).....

I have photos, taken in 1975 on the Seattle docks, of this little low-slung sports car (built on VW frame...what were those called?) pulling a little one wheeled trailer (wheel was about 10" diameter).....They were waiting for the ferry to take them to Valdez, where they intended to drive to Anchorage!
Regulars on the ferry were staring, half in amusement, half aghast... One was heard to mumble, "There's potholes on that road bigger than than that trailer!"
They just smiled and said, "Oh, we know it will be 'an adventure'."
I 'specks it was.

......after my party boarded the ferry, we went to the restaurant for a snack. The folks sitting beside us asked where we were from.

"Kansas", we admitted.

"Oh, were from Los Angeles! We never met anyone from Kasnsas! Have you even been to Dodge City?"

"Well, yes.."

"Do they really have hitching post for horses on the street? How do they keep it clean?"

....fighting to keep my face straight, I allowed as how, "no...Marshall Dillon retired awhile back, and they've kinda paved things 'modern like'.....even have 'lectricity most places. Barely need to worry about Indian attacks at all these days"

It was a pleasure to reach Juneau, where 99% of those you met seemed sane.
