As high school students in California in the early '70s my friends and I went through a '50s nostalgia phase were we rediscovered music from the time we were babies and toddlers - Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, the Beatles' early years and the Beach Boys - and it was a lot of fun. I guess the kids these days are doing the same thing. I won't begrudge them that.

BTW, Elektra, bell bottoms of various widths (some so narrow they were just called "flares") were much more universal and lasted much longer as a style than platform shoes - and were certainly considered less flamboyant.
