Wasn't 'Pennsylvania Dutch' actually a German dialect? The dialect in the DT database is an old German dialect. However, in the North of Germany some dialects (Frisian) are quite close to the Frisian dialects of Dutch. 'Wenn der Topf aber nun ein Loch hat' is printed in the 1911 'Zupfgeigenhansel' with the notes that it has been taken from an older book (no date given) and that it is found 'all over Germany'. There's another song, 'Ein Loch ist im Eimer', that is quite close in lyrics and story but has a completely different tune. The differences between these two closely related German songs are the same as the differences between the version in the database and the version Diesel has posted. I'm sure that the tune in the database is the older one of the two tunes with which the song is known.
