How do you know all of that is going on if you are asleep :-)

LOL Villan. Actually I fall asleep while some of those noises are going on, and I know some of them continue. As for the thunderstorms and rain, John tells me about them, or I get up and can see there's been some heavy rain. As for THE FLUSH OF A DISTANT TOILET (which is not really all that distant) - he gets up really early, long before I do, and performs his ablutions in the room next door, and I usually sleep right through it.
