In North Central Pennsylvania, we have grass growing in the compost pile (the grass growing in the yard is greening up), pussy willows that are budding and in Ithaca, NY I saw chamomile type flowers growing...full, open blooms. Beautiful but odd to see in January. Also, I have seen several hawks and a blue heron standing on the side of the road. Both of these birds have left for warmer climates by now. The local lakes and ponds have yet to freeze over as well. I spoke to the owner of one of the Finger Lake wineries last week and he said that the variety of wines they normally offer may not be available in the spring due to the temperatures and lack of the ground freezing.

I miss the snow too.
