Subject: RE: BS: Anyone here own or drive a hybrid car?
By accident I walked in on a PBS show about Bio-Willie yesterday. Unfortunately I didn't get a program title, but it was a pretty good one.

It must be noted that biodiesel, as being pushed by Willie, is not intended as a "replacement" for petro fuels to solve the problem of excessive petroleum consumption. It's sole real purpose is to provide local sources of fuel, and local production, as a market for farm products. As being sold, it still is a mixture of bio and petroleum products. It's being used by sufficient consumers, mostly long-haul truckers and some farmers, to be encouraging; but can't, at present, be assumed to be assured of ultimate success or survival.

At present, as indicated by the PBS show, there are only 24 "truck stops" where one can buy it, almost exclusively in Texas. (I didn't get a date on the show, so that number may have changed but probably not by much.) The show indicated that at outlets where it's available, only about 30% of truckers thus far choose to use it, and some distributers are saying that's insufficient to justify continuing to offer it, so there will be a "long pull" to get sufficient market and demand established to assure that it survives.

We're hoping.
