I've had a 6 year battle with cancer of the right vocal cord. The latest was an operaion to fill a gap left when the surgeon removed the cancer.
He then injuected a bit of my own flesh into the gap, and although the operation was a success, the vocal FOLDS are still closing when I speak. It's driving me batty!
