This song has got to be older than 1905. The earlier person I heard sing it was Tony Kraeber in the 1940's on his OLD CHISHOLM TRAIL recording. He did it complete with concluding hic-ups.

There used to be a family website for Kraeber but it seems to have disappeared. He also recorded with Jean Ritchie, and was black-listed in the 1950's red-scare.
