THIS COMING SUNDAY: SHARON ABBOTT HOSTS THE OPEN MIKE AT GODFREY DANIELS SUNDAY, JANUARY 21, 2007
It's a great honor to have been invited once again to be the guest host for the open mike night at Godfrey Daniels, a venue in Bethlehem PA that is very well known and has featured countless famous folk performers during its 35-year history.
Last time I hosted (October 15th, 2006), it was an incredible night: there was a concert being run concurrently by Godfrey's at another venue in Bethlehem, and when it was done the performers came to the coffeehouse and wrapped up the evening with three tremendous showcases: John Gorka and Susan Werner played three songs each, accompanied by bassist extraordinaire Michael Manring, who also gave us his own intricate solo!
There's no other Godfrey's concert this Sunday, but you never know what musical magic could happen there. As guest host, I get to perform my own showcase of four songs; my writing tends toward novelty songs -- they're billing me as "Songstress of Humor" -- but I do some of the more serious stuff, too. So please come on out and join me and my friends for an evening of fun and fine music by performers from the Lehigh Valley and the Philly area.

About guest host SHARON ABBOTT: From poignant ballads to topical commentary to punny verbal slapstick, Sharon Abbott writes songs with tightly-woven lyrics that reflect her keen observation of human experience and her broad sense of humor. Her songwriting style is evidence of her interest in folk, classic country and musical theater. Enhanced by her resonant voice and her fingerpicking and strumming flair on guitar, the result is a treat for the listener who can keep up with the Tilt-a-Whirl of Sharon's imagination in song.
Sharon is co-chair of the Philadelphia Songwriters Alliance and has led several songwriting workshops. She won first place in the 2006 "Best of the Best" singer-songwriter contest at the Peanut Gallery Acoustic Cafe in Norristown, and has twice won the Philadelphia Folk Factory "People's Choice" Award. She has played solo gigs at many venues across the Delaware Valley and Lehigh Valley, is a member of the folk/bluegrass/blues band Jacobs Creek, and provides backup vocals and instrumentals for singer-songwriter David Kleiner.
