No, Charley, the Getaway is not a fantasy -- it just seems like one!

The Folklore Society of Greater Washington has been holding its annual folk weekend for over 40 years now, and it's always wonderful! For the last several years, we have had many Mudcatters from various parts of the world join the fun, and they/you have contributed greatly. If you want to meet a whole bunch of Mudcatters, this is probably the best way to do it.

The 2007 Getaway will be held, as last year, at the West River Conference Center on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Last year was our first year at that facility and it proved to be very nice. We start on Friday evening with a singaround and lots of meeting and greeting. There is a full program of informal workshops and mini-concerts both Saturday and Sunday, and sign-up concerts both evenings, followed by lots of singing and jamming. Some folks stay over until Monday morning, packing up, cleaning up, and collecting hugs. The atmosphere is very informal, inclusive, and participatory. There are lots of fine musicians who attend, as well as many whose talents may not be so stellar, but who have a real interest in the music. Everyone's contributions are valued, and that fact is one of the things that makes the Getaway so special.

If you put "Getaway" into the filter box at the top of the forum page, and set the time to "all," you'll get more information about past Getaways than any human can read.

Hope to see you there in 2007 -- first weekend in November!

Nancy
