I owned a nice dreadnaught for a few years. I never did figure out what type of wood it was - a dark brown but not mahogany. My impression is that the quality of Alvarez guitars varys widely. Some are pretty good and some suck bigtime. Make sure you're happy with it before you lay your money down.
