Thread Name: Lyr ADD: Day Is Done (from Jacqui and Bridie)
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Jacqui & Bridie 'Take my Hand'
This is the first year (October, '06, actually) that Jacqui did not come over to us to do her annual concert visits. She always sang at Cafe Lena, and two or three other places in the Northeast. She did solo appearances after Bridie's death a few years ago. The two of them were charming performers with much humour. Jacqui's voice is high and expressive. I have a picture of her as a beautiful young girl with that 'new' group, The Spinners. Bridie O'Donnell was of Irish ancestry, a large girl with a hearty voice, made everyone laugh without trying. She was most known for, "The Winkle Song," and everyone would request it. Usually Jacqui was "straight man" to give Bridie a chance to make a joke. They were marvellous. I haven't tried but I'm sure you would get some info if you just type, "Jacqui and Bridie" into a search box. Jacqui was a songwriter, also; one of her best songs is called, "Hold Back the Dawn," written and recorded back in the sixties I would guess.

Apart from their performance tours (they once did a command performance for young Queen Elizabeth 11 in the big concert hall when they lived in Liverpool- 1970s?), over the years they owned and ran at least three different coffeehouses, and were good hosts to many USA visiting performers there. They lived in Chester for awhile, but now she and her friend Lynn have a house in the Lake Country and spend much time at a cottage on Luing in Scotland.       Jean
