My point is the tide has turned--Bush no longer sets the agenda--and he's even starting to recognize this. It's fairly obvious that his only concern now is his "legacy"--and that legacy is now the Iraq disaster. As petr points out, Bush could even make progress on some issues--like global warming--if he were willing to pull a Nixon in China and combine with Democrats on this. Of course this wouldn't change the fact that his "presidency"" such as it is, is totally dependent on the Iraq situation.

Another area in which he could provide a service--and improve his "legacy", if only slightly, is immigration reform, one of the very few areas in which he makes sense---there's no question, that,, as he has said, at least at one point, a path to citizenship for all illegal immigrants is the way to go. Tancredo and other troglodytes are fated to wind up left in the dust.
