Thread Name: Lyr Req: Cocaine Blues
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Cocaine Blues
Congratulations for Thorogood popularizing some good old blues tunes. I knew the "Cocaine Blues" first from about 20 years ago introduced to me by a George Thorogood Album. I used to sing it but could not remember the lyrics so I looked on line so I could sing it again (I just moved to Austin and only know a little semi-country songs and thought this would be a good one since I sing Low Bass voice mainly). Thanks for the refresher. I wanted to respond to the thread I got from my search on "Early one morning while making the rounds..." I got back a hit that said something like "I don't know if George Thorogood wrote this". I recently realized Johnny Cash did this song too (as I said - not in to country) I just wanted to clarify that years ago, if memory serves, in an interview, when Thorogood was coming up, he was asked about his songs being based on old blues stand-by's. He said ALL of his songs ARE old blues songs and that he DID NOT WRITE ANY of them, explaining that there was so much good old music out there that he did not need to write anything. When asked if he was going to write and perform some originals he replied, that yes, he had written songs but would not play them out untill he could come up with a better song than the Rolling Stone's "Under My Thumb". Trippy, huh?
