I`ve seen (and heard) a Yamahe guitarlele which sounded and looked ok to me - google for that one.

And I`ve seen a similar model by Johnson in a shop.

Both had a natural or clear-laquered finish, which looked much better than the Mahalos which seem to come with an extra thick paint...
