Thread Name: Lyr Add: Felton Lonnin' / Lonnen / Lonning
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Felton Lonnin
I'm puzzled.

I've come across the story about Johnny Handle having written the second verse as quoted by Guest Julia before. Yet what Conrad posted at the top of this thread is exactly what is in the Northumbrian Minstrelsy. I checked before posting here.

As the Northumbrian Minstrelsy was published 1882 It does potentially make Johnny Handle a fair age. I did once meet him some years ago and he didn't look that old to me :-)

Admittedly my copy of the Northumbrian Minstrelsy is a facsimile produced by Llanerch press. As far as I can see, that's just what it is so I can't see that they will have edited it at all.

Also I can't see Johnny Handle claiming authorship of something he didn't write.

Perhaps someone can explain.
