Hi McGrath,
I did that with a banjo-uke using mandolin strings - it worked, but the sound wasn`t great. Later I got a banjo-mandolin changed to 4 strings that sounds better. So I got a set of uke-strings (nylon) for the banjo-uke - it sounds much better now(GCEA-tuning).
