I first heard this story, as well as (now watch this spelling) "THE SIGNIFYIN' MONKEY" (not too bad) by a gentleman named Oscar Brown Jr. I love his music, but lost the album. I'll have to try to find it again. I use this parable (?) to try to explain to people who get angry at those not too honest people they choose to befriend and get hurt by same. You knew what he/she was when you became his/her friend. Don't expect more.
