I am very sorry to hear about how Mary was treated. I expect that Mary will find a new venue soon. Like Mary LaMarca, I am suspicious that Mary's roll as shop steward has something to do with these events. By the way, if someone is vested in a pension, the participant's accrued benefits cannot legally be reduced or eliminated. That is except in the case of insolvency or bankruptcy whereby the PBGC insurance picks up a very small portion of the benefits that are payable.
