It's probably a little late for this, but unpack the bookcases, dressers, and other furniture into the new place first, then the boxes that you'll need to unpack into the bookcases and dressers. (That was a mistake I only needed to make once.)
My father told me that you should always get a new broom for a new dwelling.
I recall hearing at the National Storytelling Festival that when you move into a new place, you should put a penny in each corner of each room, and I remember seeing nods of agreement in the audience. This would be a southern US tradition, as far as I know, and I haven't run into it at any other time. If your new place is anything like most of the places I've lived, you could go broke on this one.
