One reason, I believe, is that they are less secure in their futures than their parents were at that age, and have grown more involved with their own concerns and earnings, and less willing to assume the risks of protesting publically. Also, they may have a different dynamic because they did not grow up under a war generation, as we of the Boomer era did.

But that's just a quick opinion.
