I understand, though, that they CAN be eaten in an emergency, with a light sauce and grated breadcrumbs to offset the poor texture. An extra-long marination will help, also.

The small portable ones are life-savers. Or, at least, vaguely related to life-savers. No-one has ever named a candy of any kind "Air Hose", I know, but perhaps someone should. With kids today there's no telling what will sell.
