I think probably Joyce's view of 'old Irish tonality' would probably be along the lines of Frank Patterson rather than John Reilly. he was a big fan of that sort of tenor, being one himself and he promoted their concerts.

As I remember Molly Bloom was quite keen on Blazes O'Boylan, who was (I think) a tenor.
