Thread Name: Obit: record producer Wally Ridley - RIP
Subject: RE: Obit: Wally Ridley - RIP
It was while working with Wally Ridley that, as a consequence of some forgotten joke,Alma Cogan did a take of a song whilst trying to control a chuckle.
Wally liked the effect so much he advised her to retain it.
This contributed both to her popularity & her status as a fairly potent antidepressant in her own right.
"Shakin' All Over" was cited by Rock Journalists Roy Carr & Tony Tyler as being one of three key tracks which formed the nucleus of a distinctively British style of Rock.
(The other two were "Move It" and "I Saw Her Standing There")
The sheer danceability of "Hippy Hippy Shake" endures to this day.
It's sad that Wally's name is not heard so often as he was worthy of mention in the same breath as George Martin & Joe Meek.
