One version of this I heard years ago (sung by Mick Fitzgerald) was called "The bright silvery light of the moon", which I assume is a parody of another song with the same title, although I don't know the original song.

It ends up withe cautionary lines "You could wind up just lke me, Marrying a woman and half a tree, by the bright silvery light of the moon".
