Counting songs - aaaaaaaargh! Who else squirms when some clown strikes up with

"I'll sing you one -o
Green grow the rushes -o..."

or

"On the first day of Christmas...."

or

"Here's good health! Good health to Barley Malt...."

The trouble with these is their repetitiveness and sheer length! For the above examples (with 12 verses each), the length of the verses increases in arithmetic progression so by the time you've reached the end, you've gone through 1+2+3+4+.....+12 'days of Christmas' or whatever. Applying the general formula n(n+1)/2 for the sum, that's 78 bloomin' "days". Even in verse 8, you're not even 1/2 way through the song!
