Folk news groups are probably the cleanest answer. Although not everyone can access newsgroups.
I have also remembered that my site is actually hosted in Seattle so could well suffer at the same time as Mudcat, although I haven't noticed any downtime.
I did like the comment though along the lines of " You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone"
