Thread Name: Lyr Req: Bullfrog Blues
Subject: Lyr Add: BULLFROG BLUES (from Rory Gallagher)
Leadbelly, I see another mudcatter has already posted Rory Gallagher lyrics for Bullfrog Blues. The lyrics I've posted below are also from Rory Gallagher, from his "Live in Europe" album (mid 70s). There are just a few variations from the lyrics posted by Declan, but Rory often improvised and ad libbed in his songs. I gather Bullfrog Blues was actually an older acoustic blues tune that Rory jazzed up a bit. I've included basic guitar chords if you're a player yourself, but Rory's wizard finger picking tablature is, alas, beyond me at present.

BULLFROG BLUES                                                (trad. Arr. Rory Gallagher)

(Concert pitch, Capo in 4th fret)

G
Well did you ever…?
Well did you ever…?
Well did you ever…?

                                                         C                         G
Well did you ever wake up with that bullfrogs on your mind?
C                                                                                    G
Well did you ever wake up with that bullfrogs on your mind?
                  D                              C                                        G
You had to sit there and laugh, laughing just to keep from crying.

Well did you ever wake up with that one woman on your mind?
Well did you ever wake up with that one woman on your mind?
You sit there and laugh, laughing just to keep from crying.

G
My mother got 'em, my father got 'em

My sister got 'em, my brother got 'em
   C                                                                     G
I woke up this morning, grandmother had 'em too
                D                                       C          G
Well you know about that, I got the Bullfrog Blues!

                                                            G
Call up the doctor, was not feeling so well
C                                                                     G
Well I call up the doctor, was not feeling so well
                  D                      C               G
He looked me side to side, said 'well, well!'

"You don't need no doctor you don't need no pill
C                                        G
You don't need no doctor, you don't need no pill
       D                            C                         G
Just take my advice, it's sure to cure your ills

G
Head on down to New Orleans

Prettiest place you've ever seen
C
Head on down to the riverbed
G
That's where the music never ends
D                      C
Open your ears, don't it feel good?
G
Get one hell of a shot of rhythm and blues!"

Head on down to New Orleans
The greatest place you've ever been
Head on down to the riverbed
Dig the music of them Cajun bands
Honky-tonk piano, make you feel good
Open your ears to the rhythm and blues

Well did you ever wake up with that bullfrogs on your mind?
Well did you ever wake up with that bullfrogs on your mind?
You had to sit there and laugh, laughing just to keep from crying.

Well did you ever wake up with that one woman on your mind?
Well did you ever wake up with that one woman on your mind?
You sit there and laugh, laughing just to keep from crying.
