    Many loved ones past and gone
    Stories told to young by elders
    Fables wrote and turned to song

1. Once I stood among the timber
   Risin' high up to the sky
   Now it's turned to stone and cinders
   No one knows to reason why

2. Lakes and steams once were many
   Deer and fowl were free to roam
   But it's gone and there's no endin'
   To the wrath that man's brought on
